I am updating the google map here with some new "pink" markers that indicate areas planned for planting this weekend and next week leading up to the event. This year is gonna be harder because I have always had Friday night to plant but this year we have an incredible fun time waiting for us at the outhouse too ;) so planting time is limited.
Return of the Urban Trail:
When MountainScorpia first did a January event in Asheville she did an Urban Trail.
Look for the return of the Urban Trail this year. Maps are available at event HQ and at the visitors center on Montford Avenue in Asheville.
I will have some maps and guide info available.

Countdown....
The countdown has started.
The scramble to get it all organized is also about to begin.
This year's Mountain Mystery & Legends Event promises to be a load of fun again this year...
but this year the logistics to make my plans come together are a bit harder because of the holiday.
The morning meet up will be in the area of carrier park and The French Broad River Park again this year. However, this time instead of an all day affair at the park I had planned to meet up for info and clues etc... and then everyone is off to box. In the evening I had planned to meet up at a local pub/restaurant for more socializing and exchanging. Also any raffle drawings will be done there.
With the holiday of New Years, I am faced with many places are either booked since August, I am told, or are just not doing private parties or reservations. So bear with me on the final plans for the evening. :)
In the right margin of this page you may view the map from last year. Click on it for a larger view & info. I will add to it as needed.
Keep your fingers crossed...
for good weather and a good event location for the evening festivities!

Days away...
The gathering is just a few days away...
clues are being written and boxes placed right up until the day before the event.
Asheville now has points of interest along it's own "Civil War Trails"
Letterboxes will be placed in some of these spots in time for the gathering... and more will be added later in an effort to plant all those places.
I would like to suggest you search the internet for information about the Memphis Belle and her historic departure from Asheville, NC. A three part letterbox series is based on this amazing historical event. It is a collaboration between myself and Kirbert. You may also check out windsweptwings.com for some info about "Memphis Belle's Asheville Departure"
I hope I have time to revive the Pink Lady and the Letterbox letterbox at the Grove Arcade but honestly folks.... my time has run thin.
I can't wait to see all y'all....

Special Mystery for 2009
What's the Mystery?
Well.... this particular mystery is Who is gonna do the event stamp and what is it gonna be this year?
I have successfully twisted the arm of..... er..... should I say.... sweetly talked an incredible master carver into a extra special event stamp for the upcoming 2009 gathering in the mountains.
This carver is not from here so those who have been here to previous events have not seen this person's stuff.... or at least not here. You would otherwise have to travel far across this dear land to see wonders such as this! Better make plans and head on to the mysterious mountains of NC in the dead of Winter.
I have not seen the planned image but I just feel it in my bones.... This treasure alone will be worth the trip. :)

Event-full 2008 Gathering
I actually arrived on time ;-)
and this time I hadn't left anything behind... or at least I hoped not.
I had the help of Mojo and 2fist4 to finish putting out the last couple of letterboxes...
oh, wait...I get to put one letterbox in the French Broad River.
A floating letterbox that has to be reeled in...
I had high hopes that it will bring smiles to many of the children's faces.
Mojo made "the facilities" letterboxes accessible to all as long as you were willing to venture into the opposite sex's restroom... and 2fist4 "installed" the Tongue Flappin' Fun.
People started tricklin in...
and of course I couldn't wait to see the friends we've already made.
Even as the crowd got bigger... most everything seemed to go smoothly...
except one time some willing dad had to go after the floating letterbox's contents that had accidentally took a swim...
oh... hey... I remember why everything went so smoothly.
Mama Fox was doing all the raffle stuff for me and being my right hand... Knit Wit was keeping me informed of the happenings around me... Mama Flory made some copies for me... FireFighterDaddy and Baby kept Mojo at arm's length and occupied... those things meant a great deal to me. Thank y'all :-)
I think I got cootied more in 1 hour at this event than I had in 3 entire events before.
At one point i had a cootie tail. 2fist4 sat at a distance and enjoyed watching me trying to reach my cootie tail that one of the kids had clipped on the bottom of my jacket right at my rearend. I am certain it must have been a hilarious sight watching me spin and twist but each time i did the cootie on the string swung away from my grasp.
The Event Stamp carved by Orion was a wonderful addition...
It was just the perfect image. I wanted something creative and unique...
something representative of the mysteries, legends and haunts of these mountains.
The Hills are Alive is all I wanted and more. It's a real treasure!
Then there is the whole story of GoSox being a sneak...
He even gave us a fighting chance at figuring out that he was who he was by wearing a Red Sox shirt. Dang I am such a ditz sometimes.
There was actually so many people to meet and so much going on there is just no way to write about it all here... some of the highlights must included the stories from boxers who had already been to... or those questions from anxious boxers who hoped to get at the Chicken Alley box and those at the old Craggy Prison. The Chicken Alley box had gotten lots of attention and talk on the NC message board at AQ. Knit Wit had planted some of special "pawning" interest and had done the old Asheville Speedway series for me. She did much better than I could have and chose a great theme. Oh, and of all things... one of the simplest little treasures got so many compliments... not because the carving is awesome but because an unexpected force of nature meets and unites with a discarded man-made item and this was the inspiration for Spring Tree.
There are a dozen or more boxes still available that was either planted for the event or was left and planted during it. This event helped make Asheville a boxing mecca is these gorgeous mountains. Now.. I get asked which boxes are "must haves"... my personal favorite of my own plants is Mourning located in a glorious historical cemetery... but there are just too many to pick one or two from other planters. There are so many good ones... but please feel free to contact me for specifics and recommended areas.
The event was tremendous and probably the largest NC gathering to date... Thanks Y'all!

New Mountain Mystery event...
so many ideas...
many of them will be probably impossible to implement...
but many more will not...
but between the old 13th floor Asheville jail and Old Craggy Prison...
Helen's Bridge & Zealandia...
Biltmore and Riverside Cemetery...
there should be no shortage of mysteries, legends and
haunts for the 2008 Mtn. Mystery & Legends.
What fun we will have :=)

a Mtn Mystery event did not happen for us in 2007
but I am so thankful that Mountain Scorpia allowed me to take over the slot in January for an event. afterall... there is no softball in January and the Christmas break from school... will be the perfect time to get planting and get ready.
look out...
the next one is slated for January 5, 2008

Mountain Mystery & Legends Gathering
Mountain Mystery & Legends Gathering
What a blast. The event has come and gone...and in true Dixie fashion...i got so caught up in planting new boxes and then just talking that I didn't finish or would forget certain things that i had planned :( but...all in all...i think everyone had a good time. The haunted Inn didn't work out because it was the "busy leaf season" and their were just too many guests to allow a bunch of crazy letterboxers have run of the place while looking for letterboxes and ghosts. I made some friends and lots of wonderful memories. The sunset at "the knob" Saturday night was great and the night hunt didn't go just as planned planned but maybe i have learned a lesson *yikes*
It came and went way too fast.
There were waaaaay too many happenings to write about and be able to give them all the mention and time they deserve. How wonderful it was to have these folks come out to my mountains for fun and laughter. THANKS to all.
Will there be another Mountain Mystery event in 2007?
I certainly would like to see it but I think it would need to not be the same time of the year.
